Dear Governor Jindal:
Please allow me to second the opinions voiced by Mr. Walsh below. I voted
for you as a reformer that might improve the image and future of Louisiana.
Obviously, given the ineptitude demonstrated during your first year in
office, I was mistaken. You are clearly nothing but another corrupt
Louisiana politician. I am sickened by the institutionalized vacancy of
governments at all levels after Katrina. As a Democrat voting for a
Republican, I can say, never again. You illustrate the sum of self-serving
business as usual government that has practically destroyed our country. A
congress that illegally serves itself at the expense of a state in severe
trouble is the definition of what we claim to be fighting to stop in the
rest of the world. You represent the venality that corrupt governments the
world over struggle to impose on the people of the world. Please apologize
to your own god for such vacancy of soul on your part.
Mr. Walsh states, "Businesses award raises based on performance. Once this
state starts leading in quality of life issues I will devote as much effort
to supporting and voting you and the legislature back into office." Let me
add that I will devote as much effort to attempting to vote you and the
legislator out of office if you fail to address quality of life issues other
than your own quality of life.

Dear Governor Jindal:
The whole nation is watching! The Louisiana Legislature is the only state
government in the Union that will raise its own pay while currently seated.
This is unethical.
The 27 amendment of the United States Constitution dictates ³No law,
varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and
Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives
shall have intervened².
Our forefathers wrote that amendment for a reason and although other states
don't fall under that rule. They have done so because it¹s ethical. It¹s a
mockery to our citizens that the seated legislature vote themselves an
increase while they don¹t give the electorate a chance to either approve or
vote them back into office.
The Legislature holds out one hand seeking monetary help in the form of
billions of dollars to assist Louisiana in its recovery from our federal
fellow taxpayers and then sticks out the other hand seeking an outrageous
pay increase.
Louisiana is last in everything good that adds to quality of life and first
everything bad.
You all run for office indicating you are going to run Baton Rouge like a
business. Well guess what! Businesses award raises based on performance.
Once this state starts leading in quality of life issues I will devote as
much effort to supporting and voting you and the legislature back into
office.

Did you know before you signed a "Sister City agreement with Durban South Africa Mayor Mlaba, that he is under investigation by Amnesty International? Are you trying to get ideas from Mayor Mlaba how to handle our homeless and Housing issues here?

In late 2005 the New York times reported that Durban South Africa shack dwellers in the Foreman Road shanty town had burnt an effigy of Durban Mayor Mlaba after they had been attacked by the police and illegally banned from staging a march on the mayor to protest against his housing policy. A few days after the march Mayor Mlaba called a press conference at which he announced that a large amount of Huletts (now trading as Moreland) land would soon be made available for a $10 billion(rand) housing project for shack dwellers. Moreland denied that there was such a project and later went on to announce a commercial project on the land. Shortly after the march, the Durban press reported that Mlaba had instructed Professor Makgoba, the vice-chancellor of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, to fire the three academics that has been working with the shack dwellers' movement Abahlali baseMjondolo. Two of the three were soon forced out of the university and the third was fired some months later.[ The South African constitution and law make any eviction of an unlawful occupier, such as a shack dweller, undertaken without an order of the court an unlawful and criminal act. A report by to the United Nations the Centre for Housing Rights in Geneva in early 2008 claims that the City routinely evicts shack dwellers without court orders.
Since 2005 international human rights reports have regularly condemned abuses against shack dwellers in Durban including the illegal banning of protests and illegal police violence against peaceful protests. .
In September 2007 thousands of shack dwellers were peacefully marching on Mayor Mlaba to protest against his policy of expelling the poor from the city were violently attacked by the police without warning or provocation. The police attack was strongly condemned by South African church leaders and by international human rights organizations.
In early 2008 the United Nations expressed serious concern about the treatment of shack dwellers in Durban. At the same time the Mercury newspaper reported that both Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International were investigating Human Rights abuses against shack dwellers by the Durbin City Government of which Mayor Mlaba is the head.
