Thanks for signing up! We’ve made a huge amount of progress in less than 48 hours; getting the site up, getting the word out, and starting to get people organized. We’re going to provide a checklist for recall efforts, and we’re going to seek advice from the folks involved in the Blanco and Broussard recall efforts to make sure ours are successful. We’re also planning ahead for the next election. For the moment, we’ve established some goals to get us started and listed some areas where people can pitch in. These are published on the website and at the bottom of this email, and they will be subject to change as we get some feedback from everyone who’s signed up. (Remember: we’re new at this too!)
We’re looking forward to your feedback.
Thanks!!
http://www.legewatch.com/goals/
Lege Watch intends to first and foremost be a nonpartisan organization that monitors the Louisiana legislature. Our immediate goal is to replace nearly the entire legislature - every person that voted for or supported the pay raise without even the courtesy of a discussion with the voters who put them in office.
Our immediate goals (in progress) are compiling a user-friendly checklist for recall efforts and arranging meetups for each district. We also seek suggestions for additional goals from everyone who has registered!
Our goals for this organization currently include:
Forming a LegeWatch group in every district to monitor their representatives.
Learn which Senators and Representatives are vulnerable to recall; get organized and initiate those recalls where feasible.
If a recall effort is not feasible, focus on the next election; compiling as much information about the legislator as possible, preparing fact sheets and disseminating information.
Our goals for this website current include:
Becoming the primary nonpartisan information source on the Louisiana legislature: our members will monitor and report back on a regular basis. Information will be available by district, by topic and by legislator’s name. We will make a particular effort to be the top Google result for each politician we target, and we will cross post to other popular information sources. We will make their online reputations fit their actions.
An online newsletter, probably monthly, to update people and keep them involved. This will also be suitable for printing so we can distribute updates as widely as possible.
Providing a full library of flyers that anyone can print and distribute with information about their legislators.
Promoting other watchdog websites.
As this is definitely a team effort, we are current seeking help in the following areas -
Spokespeople - we need people who are willing to deal with the media. As we continue to get organized, we are going to actively seek media coverage. If you have any experience in this area, please contact us immediately!
District organizers - we need people in each district who will organize teams of people for the recall/election efforts.
Reporters - we need people in each district who will monitor and report back on what their legislator is doing. Most information is online, sometimes they will need to make phone calls to gather information. They will then write it up and publish it on this website.
Admins - we need some web savvy people to help administer this website. They will approve submitted articles and moderate comments.
Technical - we’re discussing various improvements to this site and debating whether a CMS, forum, or sticking with this blog format is the way to go. If you want to put your two cents in on this or other areas, we’d love to hear from you.
Please contact admin@legewatch.com about helping out in any of these areas.
